In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Inaki Williams, the forward who had a disappointing run in the 2022 World Cup without scoring, struggled to make an impression once again for Ghana’s Black Stars in their narrow win over Angola.
Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, has called for support for Williams and empathized with the difficulties he faces adjusting to the African game after playing in Europe all his life.
Gyan, in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, urged fans to back Williams and give him more opportunities, saying that although he has not found his feet yet, he is improving.
Gyan believes that Williams’ first goal will open the floodgates and boost his confidence level, leading to many more goals. Ghana’s qualification for the AFCON tournament next year depends on a win in the reverse fixture against Angola in Luanda, and Gyan encouraged fans to keep supporting Williams in that crucial game.
