President Mahama to Launch Education Fund for Children of Helicopter Crash Victims

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of an Education Fund to support the children of those who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6 in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at the third-day funeral rites (Adua) of Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed on Tuesday, August 12, the President revealed that the fund will be officially launched during a state funeral scheduled for Friday, August 15.

“There will be a state funeral on Friday, 15th August. At the funeral, we will announce some programmes for creating a fund that will assist with the education of the children. Friday, I will announce the details of that, so that people who want to contribute to the future of the children they have left behind will have the opportunity to do so,” President Mahama stated.

He expressed his hope that Allah would show mercy and forgiveness to the departed souls, saying, “I believe that Allah will have mercy on him, forgive him for all his sins, and accept him.”

The Education Fund is being introduced in response to the devastating crash that occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District. The accident claimed eight lives, including:

  • Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

  • Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

  • Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed

  • Former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye

  • NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

  • Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

On Sunday, August 10, national funeral rites were held to honour Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed.

The upcoming state funeral at the Black Star Square will commemorate all eight victims and formally introduce the Education Fund, providing an opportunity for individuals and institutions to contribute to the future of the affected children.
