The Right to Information Commission has imposed a GH¢20,000 fine on four public institutions for failing to comply with provisions of Ghana’s Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The affected institutions are the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital, and the Ghana Police Service.
The Commission said the penalties were imposed after the institutions failed to meet their obligations under the RTI law, which requires public bodies to provide access to information requested by citizens within the legally prescribed timelines.
The action forms part of efforts by the Commission to ensure compliance with the RTI Act and promote transparency and accountability among public institutions.
The Commission has urged all public bodies to strengthen their information management systems and respond promptly to requests from citizens to avoid similar sanctions.
The RTI Act, which came into force in 2020, gives citizens the right to access information held by public institutions, subject to exemptions provided by law.
