OLIVIER GIROUD has made a suggestion that he might give up competing internationally in the following year.

With 277 goals in all competitions, the former star of Chelsea and Arsenal is nearing the conclusion of his career.

A suggestion regarding his retirement has been made by Olivier Giroud.

Once the Euros are over, the striker may decide to stop playing for his country.

Since joining AC Milan in 2021, Giroud, 37, has won one Serie A championship while playing for the team.

The Frenchman has won championships in France, England, and Italy during his trophy-filled career.

The striker, who won the World Cup in 2018, has also seen success at the international level.

But when France fell to Portugal in the final of the 2016 Euros, he was devastated.

Giroud acknowledged that the competition in Germany the following summer will “probably” be his final one.

“I’m not planning beyond the short-term,” he stated to TéléFoot.

“These Euros are an ambition, therefore being healthy and competitive is the most crucial thing.

“I would love to win this trophy with France; we came very close to doing so in 2016.”

It may be my final competition, but I can’t say for sure what will happen after.

Giroud also acknowledged that he will “bow out” if France wins Euro 2024.

The former Montpellier striker continued by saying that he nearly ended his career in Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.

He then said, “I’m just missing these Euros,” to RMC Sport. I’ll give up if we win.

“If we don’t make it to the finish line, that will most likely also be the case. I’m savoring every second of it.

“I told some guys I would retire if we won the World Cup in 2022.

“But I am hungry for titles with my country.”

In the Euros group stages, Giroud and France are paired against Austria and the Netherlands.

The winning team from the play-offs from Poland, Wales, Finland, or Estonia will round up the group; their identity is still unknown.
