The Ghana Police Service has taken swift action in response to a distressing viral video that depicts the abuse of a female victim. The video, believed to have originated from the Upper East Region, shows a group of individuals subjecting the woman to inhumane and degrading treatment.
In a statement, the police service confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
“The Police have commenced investigation into a viral video believed to have originated from the Upper East Region, in which a female victim is seen being subjected to inhumane and degrading treatment by a group of people,” stated the police.
Four suspects, identified as Awizore Amolt, Akolbila Asorwogo, Atibila Aladago, and Akolbila Ben, have been arrested in connection with the case. The arrests were made during a police intelligence operation conducted on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Efforts are underway to apprehend any other accomplices involved in the incident.
“We wish to call on the public to remain calm as efforts are underway to get the perpetrators arrested to face justice,” assured the police service in their statement. They also encouraged the public to come forward with any relevant information that may assist in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
The police service is in contact with the victim and her family, and arrangements have been made for a police clinical psychologist to provide her psycho-social support.
The abuse captured in the viral video has sparked concerns among security analysts. Adib Saani, a security analyst, expressed worry about the disturbing nature of the video, which shows a woman identified as a Fulani woman being sexually molested in public by a group of men.
Mr Saani highlighted the danger of such acts, as they can be exploited by terrorist groups to infiltrate communities and escalate violence.
The Ghana Police Service has taken note of these concerns and is determined to apprehend the perpetrators involved in this heinous act. The police service emphasized the importance of upholding the law and ensuring that acts of barbarity are not tolerated in society.
