Andre Ayew Urges Ghanaians to Support Young Black Stars Players

Ghana’s national football team captain, Andre Ayew, has called on Ghanaians to offer strong support to the young players currently representing the Black Stars.

Andre Ayew’s Appeal for Support During Sports Psychology Lecture

Speaking at a sports psychology lecture at the University of Ghana, Ayew addressed the challenges faced by the younger members of the Black Stars squad who began their football careers abroad.

Understanding the Challenges of Young Black Stars Players

Ayew explained that the current generation of players is different from past teams because they started their careers in international leagues rather than the local Ghanaian leagues.

“We have a young squad who are now understanding what it means to play for the team,” Ayew said. “They started playing abroad at a young age, unlike the old generation who came through the local league. They tend to cope more with what they’re experiencing abroad. So coming back to Ghana to readapt to our culture and values is not easy.”

The Need for Strong Support

Ayew emphasized that Ghanaians must help these young players understand the significance of representing the country. He believes that this support is essential for them to fully embrace their roles and perform at their best.

“Psychologically, everybody needs to understand what Ghana means, what Ghana football means to the people,” he explained. “The young ones would need more support to be able to focus on what playing for the country means.”

Looking Ahead: Black Stars’ Upcoming Matches

Ayew expressed optimism that with the right support and strong performances from the young players, any perceptions of a lack of passion within the team will be overcome.

The Black Stars will resume their competitive schedule in September with matches in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana will face Angola on September 2 and Niger on September 10.
