A/R: MAN, 39, GRANTED GHC 30,000 BAIL FOR ALLEGEDLY CAUSING HARM TO ANOTHER

A 39 year-old man who has been accused of causing harm to another at Aduamoah in the Afigya Kwabre South District in the Ashanti Region has been granted a Ghc 30,000 bail by the Asokwa District Court with two sureties to be justified.

 

According to Police Prosecutor, ASP Stephen Ofori, the victim, on the 11th May, 2023, Kwame Benjamin, unemployed, who is now battling with a deformed face, had a confrontation with the accused over a portion of land that families from both sides are claiming ownership of.

 

The accused in the process attacked and allegedly struck the victim with a schnapps bottle on the left side of his face, injuring him severely.

 

The victim was then rushed to the Family Care Hospital at Mowrie but had to be transferred to a bigger facility in Kumasi for treatment due to the severity of the injury.

 

A complaint was lodged with the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in Kumasi, leading to the arrest of the accused at his hideout on June 6, 2023.

 

Making his first appearance at the Asokwa District Court, Oheneba Duah Abebrese pleaded not guilty to the offence of causing harm contrary to section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

His Honor Abdul Razak Musah, who presided over the case, granted him bail to a tune of GHC 30,000 with two sureties to be justified.

 

He adjourned the case to August 2, 2023.

 

Kwame Benjamin, the victim in an interview with UTV News after court proceedings said the pain from the injury was giving him sleepless nights, adding that he might not be able to work again owing to his current condition.

 

He is thus calling for justice.
