GSA TRAINS 264 MARKET INTEGRITY INSPECTORS ACROSS GHANA TO CHECK PRODUCT STANDARDS

The Ghana Standards Authority, under the leadership of its Director-General, Professor George Agyei, has trained 264 Market Integrity Inspectors to help inspect products sold and used in the Ghanaian market to ensure they meet the required standards.

Speaking to TV XYZ News reporter Alex Donkoh, the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Ghana Standards Authority, Mr. Clement Kubati, said the training forms part of efforts by the Authority to decentralise its operations to various Municipal and District Assemblies.
According to him, the inspectors have been equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills before being deployed to various offices to inspect products in markets and companies.
He explained that the work of the Ghana Standards Authority is broad and cannot be limited to regional capitals alone, adding that products sold in municipalities and districts must also be inspected to protect consumers.
Mr. Kubati disclosed that 103 females and 161 males underwent the two-week intensive training, which included practical and theoretical sessions to prepare them for their duties as Trading Standards or Market Integrity Inspectors.
Meanwhile, the Director of Administration at the Ghana Standards Authority, Mrs. Barbara Wuttor, who spoke on behalf of the Director-General, Professor George Agyei, said the inspectors received intensive training in product testing and new technical knowledge relating to standardisation.
She stressed that the inspectors are not being deployed to harass traders or companies but rather to protect Ghanaian consumers and ensure that products on the market meet the required standards.
Mrs. Wuttor further advised importers and manufacturers to ensure that product information, particularly on electrical appliances, is clearly written in English and complies with Ghanaian standards and the relevant provisions of the Ghana Standards Authority Act.
