Parliament has resumed sitting today, Monday, August 24, following a recall by Speaker Alban Bagbin to consider urgent parliamentary business.
The five-day sitting, which runs from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, is being held at Parliament House in Accra.
The recall was initiated by Speaker Bagbin under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which gives him the authority to bring the House back from recess when urgent matters require attention.
Although the Speaker’s notice did not initially specify the issues to be considered, the sitting comes at a time when Parliament is expected to deal with pending ministerial nominations from President John Dramani Mahama.
Among the nominees awaiting parliamentary consideration are Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology and Mahama Ayariga for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The House is expected to undertake vetting and other parliamentary duties before it goes into its next phase of business.
