The Kasoa Akweley District Court has fined 28 commercial drivers and private vehicle users GH¢540 each for using unauthorized emergency lighting, including “fok” lights.
The conviction followed an operation by the Kasoa Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) along the Kasoa–Winneba road, led by Commander Superintendent Hannah Adjei.
According to the police, the use of unauthorized emergency sirens and “folk” lights by motorists is prohibited. The police said drivers had already been given a one-month grace period to comply with the directive, but some continued to use the unauthorized lighting.
Speaking after the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor at the Kasoa Akweley District Court, Chief Inspector Cephas Atsor, explained that the fines were intended to serve as a warning to other motorists.
He added that the exercise forms part of a nationwide operation by the police to enforce road traffic regulations and ensure sanity and safety on the roads.
