Money spent on National Cathedral could have completed Agenda 111 hospitals – Attorney-General

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has criticised expenditure on the National Cathedral project, saying the funds used could have helped complete some stalled hospitals under the Agenda 111 programme.

Dr Ayine made the comments during the district-level launch of the Free Primary Health Care programme in the Bolga East Constituency in the Upper East Region.

According to him, a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers on the National Cathedral project, which was presented to him on August 7, raised concerns about how public resources were prioritised.

He argued that completing healthcare facilities under Agenda 111 would have provided more direct benefits to citizens.

Dr Ayine questioned the approach used in developing the National Cathedral project, insisting that public funds must be directed towards projects that address critical national needs.

He encouraged the government to focus on completing stalled hospital projects rather than committing more resources to the cathedral initiative.

The National Cathedral project, which was initiated under the previous administration, has faced public debate over its financing, expenditure and relevance amid calls for greater investment in sectors such as health and education.
