A law lecturer and private legal practitioner, Professor Stephen Srem-Sai, has criticised the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) over comments regarding legal vacation proceedings, arguing that the association’s position was based on a misunderstanding of the law.
According to Prof. Srem-Sai, the GBA President was wrong in the interpretation of the rules governing legal vacation and court proceedings during that period.
He explained that the legal vacation does not completely halt judicial activities, as courts are still empowered to handle certain matters that require urgent attention.
Prof. Srem-Sai stressed that the legal profession must rely on accurate interpretations of legal provisions, especially on issues affecting the administration of justice.
His comments follow discussions within the legal community over the conduct of court proceedings during the legal vacation period and whether certain cases should continue to be heard.
He called for a proper understanding of the rules to prevent confusion among legal practitioners and the public.
