The Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has assured Ghanaians that the government has no intention of restricting free speech or limiting citizens’ constitutional rights.
According to him, the government remains committed to protecting democratic freedoms and ensuring that every Ghanaian has the right to express their views without fear.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said concerns that recent actions by government could amount to an attempt to suppress criticism are unfounded, stressing that freedom of expression remains a key pillar of Ghana’s democracy.
He explained that while citizens have the right to speak freely, there must also be responsibility in the use of that freedom, particularly when comments border on issues such as defamation or unlawful conduct.
The Minister’s comments come amid public discussions on free speech, political commentary, and the relationship between government institutions and citizens.
He reiterated that the government respects diverse opinions and will continue to uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
