Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine has maintained that the High Court’s decision to convict former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu had merit, despite her acquittal by the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal on Thursday, July 30, unanimously overturned the 10-year prison sentence imposed on Ms. Tamakloe-Attionu, ruling that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against her beyond reasonable doubt.
However, Dr. Ayine said the State disagrees with the decision and will appeal to the Supreme Court. He has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to file a notice of appeal and an application for a stay of execution pending the outcome of the case.
According to the Attorney-General, the State believes Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu should have remained convicted, insisting that the High Court’s judgment was supported by evidence.
The former MASLOC CEO was convicted in absentia in April 2024 on 78 counts, including stealing, causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
The Court of Appeal panel, made up of Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, Justice Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, and Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu, held that the trial judge failed to uphold the presumption of innocence and that the prosecution did not prove the case against her.
