80 Arrested in Upper East Police Swoop; Suspects to Face Court — Police PRO*

The Upper East Regional Police says 80 suspects arrested in a major anti-crime operation are in custody and will be put before court.

 

The week-long intelligence-led operation, supported by the IGP’s Special Operations Team, ran from 25th May to 3rd June 2026. It covered Bolgatanga, Tongo, Bongo, Nabdam, and Nangodi.

 

At Zuarungo in Bolgatanga, 12 suspects were arrested 8 males and 4 females. The females include three Nigerians and one Ghanaian.

 

In Bongo, 34 suspects were picked up , 32 males and 2 females.

 

Operations at Pelungu, Kongo, and Nangodi led to 14 arrests: 12 males and 2 females.

 

In Nabdam District, 20 suspects were arrested.

 

In a statement, Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Abdul Rahim Sudemana, said preliminary investigations link the suspects to drug peddling, drug consumption, and other criminal activities. He added that all suspects are in police custody and will be put before court to face the full rigors of the law.

 

Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga praised the security agencies for the operation. He said it has reduced armed robbery, motorbike snatching, and other crimes in the region.
