By: Emmanuel Austin Baah
The Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Hon Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has extended warm congratulations to Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson following his election as the new Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana.
Rev. Thompson was elected during the Council’s recently concluded 2026 Annual General Meeting, marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of Ghana’s most influential religious bodies.
In a statement issued from Jubilee House on May 21, Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah, described the election of Rev. Thompson as a fitting recognition of his years of dedicated service to the Christian faith, national development and ecumenical engagement.
According to the statement, Rev. Thompson’s elevation reflects the confidence the Christian community has in his leadership qualities, vision and commitment to promoting peace, unity and moral values within the country.
“The Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations warmly congratulates Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson on his election as Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana,” portions of the statement read.
The Office further expressed optimism that Rev. Thompson’s tenure would strengthen collaboration between faith-based institutions and the State, particularly in areas of peacebuilding, national cohesion and social development.
Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah also commended the Christian Council of Ghana for what he described as a significant and timely decision, noting that the Council continues to play a vital role in shaping moral leadership and national discourse in Ghana.
The statement additionally paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. B.D.K. Agbeko (Rtd.), for his years of dedicated service and contribution to the growth and stability of the Christian Council.
“The Office acknowledges the invaluable contributions of the outgoing Chairman and appreciates the close collaboration enjoyed during his tenure,” the statement added.
The Christian Council of Ghana remains one of the country’s leading ecumenical organisations, bringing together several Protestant and Anglican churches to champion issues of social justice, education, peace and national development.
Observers within the religious fraternity believe Rev. Thompson’s leadership comes at a crucial time when the nation continues to rely on faith-based organisations to promote unity, tolerance and ethical leadership amid growing socio-economic challenges.
The Office of the Presidential Envoy concluded by assuring the incoming Chairman of its readiness to work closely with him and all ecumenical bodies for the advancement of Ghana and the well-being of its citizens.
The statement ended with prayers for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for Rev. Thompson as he assumes his new responsibilities.
