The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has temporarily suspended three pharmacies from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) over suspected fraudulent claims and service irregularities.

In a public notice issued on May 14, 2026, the Authority identified the affected facilities as Deldem Pharma Limited at Iron City in Weija, Paramedica Pharmacy on Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma, and Desh Chemist at Amasaman along Odumase High Street.

The suspension follows a routine claims verification exercise that uncovered “material irregularities” in the claims and service transactions of the three pharmacies, raising “reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse” under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.

Effective immediately, the three facilities are prohibited from providing services or dispensing medicines under the NHIS until further notice. NHIS members are advised to seek care from other accredited providers during this period.

The NHIA emphasized that fraudulent or abusive practices undermine the sustainability of the scheme and the delivery of quality healthcare. While the duration of the suspension was not specified, the Authority reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the NHIS through ongoing monitoring and verification.

The Authority also warned that any healthcare provider found to defraud or attempt to defraud the NHIS could face prosecution, with penalties including a fine, imprisonment of up to ten years, or both.

NHIA reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and the prudent use of public funds to ensure accessible and quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
