Austrian police are investigating a robbery targeting members of the Ghana national football team at their hotel in Vienna, ahead of their friendly match against Austria on March 27, 2026. The theft occurred while the Black Stars were preparing for the game, with reports confirming that $2,250 in cash and two Rolex watches were taken from players’ rooms.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, revealed that the hotel’s CCTV system was not operational at the time of the incident. Authorities are working to determine when the cameras stopped functioning and who was responsible for the system’s maintenance.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that several team members were affected but has not yet provided a full list of the stolen items. Despite the breach, team officials assured that the players and staff remain calm and focused on the upcoming match.
The Sports Ministry has pledged to review security measures for future trips to safeguard the team, while the GFA continues to cooperate with Austrian authorities as the investigation unfolds.
