Petty traders at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Central Region, are demonstrating against the Municipal Assembly’s plan to demolish their temporary structures for permanent stores.
The Kasoa petty traders are furious and calling on President Mahama and the Trade Minister to intervene and halt the Assembly’s impending demolition.
At a press conference, some angry traders told the media the Assembly plans to seize their business spaces and sell the land to a private developer.
They expressed deep disappointment in their MP, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, and MCE Seth Banini, accusing them of abandoning them after winning the 2024 elections.
The traders said the MP had promised during her campaign not to evict them, but failed to honor that pledge.
Meanwhile, trader leaders vowed to fight “with their last blood,” noting the Assembly had rented them the space for 30 years and questioning why it’s now trying to evict them.
