IGP Deploys Special Team to Gbenyiri Following Deadly Reprisal Attacks
The Ghana Police Service has dispatched a special team of intelligence officers and investigators to Gbenyiri in the Savannah Region after a series of deadly reprisal attacks left several people dead. The team is working closely with the Savannah Regional Command to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice. While calm has largely returned to the area, security personnel remain on high alert as investigations continue.
The violence in Gbenyiri was triggered by ongoing tensions between the Brifo and Fulani communities. What began as a robbery escalated into violent reprisal attacks, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, including among vulnerable residents. The conflict highlights the long-standing disputes over land and grazing rights, which have led to previous outbreaks of violence in the region.
Local authorities have been attempting to mediate between the groups, but the history of these tensions makes the area prone to further flare-ups. The police are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by providing information that can help bring the culprits to justice.
Community leaders and local stakeholders have been called upon to work with law enforcement to prevent further violence and ensure lasting peace in the region. The deployment of the special team aims to bolster security and reassure the public of the police’s commitment to addressing the situation swiftly.
