Ghana Concludes First Edition of SESSA Games with Impressive Display of Talent from Security Services
The maiden edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games at the University of Ghana Stadium concluded on a high note yesterday, 3rd November 2024 showcasing exceptional athletic talent from Ghana’s various security agencies. Organized by Ghana Athletics, this open championship welcomed personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and other security bodies, aiming to hone athletic skills and prepare for the upcoming All Security Services Games in Nigeria, where the Ghana Armed Forces will represent the country.
The championship saw the Ghana Armed Forces dominate the field, securing almost 90 percent of the gold medals in various events. The impressive performances demonstrated the high level of discipline, physical fitness, and dedication within Ghana’s security services, adding to the excitement surrounding Ghana’s participation in the upcoming regional games.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, President of Ghana Athletics, expressed his gratitude to the athletes and their coaches for their outstanding efforts and commitment. “This event was not only about competition but about developing talent within our security services, and I am truly impressed by what we have seen here,” Mr. Fuseini remarked. “The next SESSA Games will be even bigger and better, and we hope to have all security agencies on board to make it a truly national event.”
He also extended a special thanks to the University of Ghana’s Head of Sports Directorate for the essential support provided throughout the event, which contributed to its success.
As Ghana’s security personnel set their sights on the regional championship in Nigeria, the first edition of the SESSA Games has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s athletics scene, underscoring the importance of sports in fostering camaraderie and excellence within the nation’s security services.
