Former President John Dramani Mahama has been criticized for being divisive, making him unfit to serve as Ghana’s president again, according to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate to Dr. Bawumia. Dr. Prempeh emphasized that Ghana needs a leader who can unite the nation, asserting that Mahama’s public statements often create division and tension among citizens.

Speaking at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua Constituency on Tuesday, Dr. Prempeh praised Dr. Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, as a unifier who is best suited to lead the country. “The president should be the father of the nation, and Dr. Bawumia embodies the qualities of a unifier,” he stated.

Dr. Prempeh accused Mahama of using tribal rhetoric to further his political ambitions, recalling past statements where Mahama labeled the NPP as an Akan-centric party and claimed that the party would never allow a northerner like Dr. Bawumia to lead them.

“John Mahama once boldly declared that the NPP would never let Dr. Bawumia, a northerner, become their presidential candidate. But now, Dr. Bawumia is the proud NPP candidate. What does Mahama have to say now?” Napo questioned, condemning Mahama’s divisive remarks.

He concluded by urging Ghanaians to reject tribal politics and support Dr. Bawumia, whom he described as a development-oriented leader and a unifier. “Dr. Bawumia leads a truly national party, and we should vote for him to unite and advance the nation,” Dr. Prempeh added.
