Why Some Youth Can’t Benefit from Motivational Speakers

There has been a growing backlash against motivational speakers, with some jeering that these so-called motivational speakers mislead and hide the real deal or secrets to the success stories they share.

I completely agree with this and affirm that several motivational speakers are in the business, and you, the listener, are only the product they are trading and also the potential customers they are wooing to sell some products. Others are also mere emotional and sensational talkers who have nothing practical or workable to share except to stir emotions.

That notwithstanding, what some youth also miss is that a motivational speech or motivation, in essence, is only one side of the spectrum in this journey of life. If you don’t get things right, you can summon up the best of motivational speakers, preachers, and books, and yet you will have absolutely no result. For motivation is neither the beginning nor the end of the road to any form of success.

There are three basic roads to success, and they are:

1. ASPIRATION

2. INSPIRATION

3. PERSPIRATION

Motivation falls under INSPIRATION. Before you can benefit from any motivational speaker, preacher, or book, you must first have an aspiration, i.e., vision, ambition, objective, purpose, motive, etc. You must have a goal in view, an end to reach. The Bible says where there is no vision, the people perish. So no matter how motivated you are, if you don’t make time to craft a workable and ‘smart’ vision, that motivation would be useless and a waste of time. That’s why many are frustrated, and they end up thinking motivation misleads.

Again, having been motivated, the next stage you need to enter into is the PERSPIRATION stage. There are those who erroneously think that motivation is a shortcut to success. They assume once they are motivated by a sermon, a book, a preacher, a movie, or a post, they have found the secret to quick-fix. But that’s not it. After motivation, you must go through the mill to learn, train, and act upon your vision or dream. Motivation is only meant to help you overcome inertia and keep going. Therefore, if you fail to go through the mill, face the giants, and break forth no matter what, you will fail and blame others.

Definitely, you need motivation from start to finish, but it is only a fuel, not the driver, of your destiny. You are the driver. Therefore, drive. And keep driving. Even if the fuel finishes in the middle of the road, push the car. Life is not a bed of roses. Success is not final, and failure is not fatal.
