The Minority Leader, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has vehemently denounced a recent publication on the front page of the Thursday, 5th October, 2023 edition of the Daily Guide Newspaper. In a strongly worded statement, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson clarified that the publication lacked factual basis and was intended to create public disaffection towards him.
As the minority leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson recognizes the crucial role of the media in informing the public and fostering a sense of community. However, he expressed disappointment in the dissemination of information driven by malicious intent rather than a commitment to truthful reporting.
Contrary to the claims made in the publication, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson categorically stated that he has not applied to the Honorable Court or the Attorney General Department for a plea bargain or any out of court settlement of the pending charges being prosecuted against him. In fact, the record shows that Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has already opened his defense in the trial and has called some of his witnesses.
Maintaining his innocence, having pleaded not guilty to the charges, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson expressed that he has no objection to the desire of the 3rd Accused to settle the matter without further legal proceedings. However, he firmly affirmed his own innocence throughout the ordeal.
Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson believes that the Daily Guide’s publication is an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing #OccupyBOG demonstration. Undeterred by these false allegations, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson remains dedicated to his responsibilities for the betterment of his constituents and the country as a whole.
In the interest of journalistic integrity and fostering a healthy and constructive public discourse, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson respectfully requests that the Daily Guide Newspaper retract the content in question and issue a public statement acknowledging the lack of substance in the allegations made against him. By taking this step, the newspaper will demonstrate its commitment to responsible reporting.
