It’s Ghana’s biggest music night this weekend as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) comes off on Saturday, June 1 at 7pm.

All roads will lead to the  Accra International Conference as fans are eagerly awaiting for their favourite artiste to win awards for their nominated categories.

The organisers of the TGMAs have also announced performers for Saturday night as well as the two tier tickets for VIP and Premium.

Debates about who clinches the covetous trophy, Artiste of the Year have already been swirling around with King Promise seemingly appearing as the favourite.

However, he faces off competition from two-time winner, Sarkodie, Kuami Eugene, Stonebwoy, Black Sherif – all of whom have won it once with Nacee, a newcomer to the award.

But this is not the only category to look out for; Best Rapper of the Year, Dancehall Reggae artiste of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year are all categories worth debating about.

Which nominee wins what amongst these five categories on Saturday night?

Artist of The Year: One of the most debated category over the years. This category has been occupied with top-notch artistes such Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy. All of whom nominated songs have performed exceedingly well both local and outside. The Artiste of the Year award is the highest honour given to the artiste(s) adjudged by Charterhouse, GMA Board, Academy, and the General Public as having the highest audience appeal, highest radio play, highest online streaming and popularity.

Best Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the year: Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Stonebwoy and Samini have been lined up for the award on Saturday night. Who earns the bragging right? The question on the minds of many – a surprise is in the offing.

Best Rap Performance of the Year: One of the toughest category for this year with a number of lyrically good, quality flow and punchline rappers. It’s the hardest category for me and will really be a tough one. Amerado, Eno Barony, FimFim, Lyrical Joe, Medikal, Sarkodie and Strongman are facing stiff competition from each other for this one.

Best Gospel Song: Patience Nyarko, Mabel Okyere, Nacee, Perez Muzik, Piesie Esther, Scott Evans, Diana Hamilton and Joyce Blessing are going head-to-head on this one.

Best Highlife Artiste of the Year: Abiana, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Akwaboah and FRA on this beat is not surprising. All artistes have been marvelous for the year under review and deserve the accolade. However, the award has to go to just to an artiste. Who will it be? your guess is as good as mine.

Multi-talented host and actor Chris Attoh will host the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards on Saturday, June 1. This will make it his fourth appearance as the emcee of the Ghana Music Awards successfully hosting the event in 2011, 2012, and 2016.
