The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has dismissed reports suggesting that cultural greetings on the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park signage have been replaced with unfamiliar inscriptions.
This follows a viral Instagram post alleging that the inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaba” (Akan) were removed and substituted with “Oobakɛ.” The post sparked widespread public concern, as many Ghanaians considered the greetings vital cultural identifiers.
In a rejoinder released on Wednesday, August 27, the GTA described the claims as false and misleading, emphasizing that both greetings remain intact as part of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
The authority further clarified that it does not have unilateral power to alter inscriptions at the park, as any such changes would require consultations and approval from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, alongside other relevant agencies.
Reassuring the public, the GTA encouraged Ghanaians to continue supporting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, describing it as a lasting symbol of national pride and unity.
