In a joint effort with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is set to launch the highly-anticipated “Youth in Agric” initiative next week. Designed to make farming an attractive and profitable career choice for the youth while promoting food sufficiency in Ghana, this program is an integral part of the Planting for Food and Jobs phase 2.
Under the “Youth in Agric” module, young people who have been recruited will receive five acres of land, seedlings, fertilizer, and other necessary farm inputs free of charge. The beneficiaries will also be assigned an aggregator, an official certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, who will provide guidance and support throughout their farming journey.
In addition to the provision of resources, the program will offer training on the use of technology in farming and the application of best practices. This will empower the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the agricultural sector, while fostering innovation and sustainability.
The launch of the “Youth in Agric” initiative signifies a concerted effort by the government and its partners to address youth unemployment and enhance food security in the country. By encouraging young people to engage in agriculture, this initiative aims to transform the perception of farming from a traditional occupation to a lucrative, modern, and innovative career path.
The Youth Employment Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture are committed to providing ongoing support and monitoring the progress of the participants. This initiative not only creates avenues for self-employment but also contributes to the overall economic growth of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The launch event for the “Youth in Agric” initiative is scheduled to take place on October 18, 2023. It will bring together key stakeholders, government officials, and young aspiring farmers, all dedicated to shaping a future in which Ghana’s agriculture thrives and the nation achieves food sufficiency.
