Why Martin Amidu Petitioned Akufo-Addo for the Removal of Kissi Agyebeng

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu is said to have petitioned the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Kissi Agyebeng.

The petition according to reports was sent to the President on April 30, 2024

Martin Amidu cites procurement breaches in the purchase of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and abuses involving judges and the administration of justice as part of his reasons for the impeachment of Mr. Agyebeng.

The former Attorney General also cited violations of citizens’ rights through arrests and detentions, violations of the right to information, and improper appointments of personnel to the office.

He indicated that the OSP had breached the Right to Information law when he requested appointment letters and salary details of all OSP staff.

Reports indicate that the President has since May 06, 2024 forwarded this petition to the Chief Justice to be looked into to ascertain whether there is a prima facie case to establish a committee for Kissi Agyebeng’s removal.
