We will vote against you if cashew price is not increased – Farmers threaten Government

The leadership of Cashew Farmers Association in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region have called on the leaders of the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) and government to review and improve upon the purchasing price for Cashew pegged at Ghc7.00 this season or face their Wrath.

Speaking to Journalists in a press conference some of the cashew farmers threatened to vote against the NPP government should the government fail to increase the purchasing price of cashews this season because farmers have been deceived by politicians on issues of their occupation for a long time.

 

Elder Koosono, Vice Chairman of the Cashew Farmers in Jaman South also expressed that a kilo of cashew is sold at 8.50 in our neighboring country Ivory Coast hence the need for TCDA to as a matter of urgency review the Ghc7.00 price in Ghana.

 

He said cashew farmers in Ghana are pleading with authorities to increase the purchasing price from Ghc7.00 to Gh10.00 to ensure the farmers benefit from their toil in making Ghana one the largest cashew producers in West Africa.

 

On his part, Mr. Emmanuel Kusi, Secretary to the Jaman South Cashew Farmers Association disclosed that they have been made aware of monies being deducted from cashew farmers to support the cashew operations in the country hence they are calling on the necessary authorities to be accountable to the farmers on what and how those monies have been spent in improving the activities of cashew production.
