Ghana coach Otto Addo remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite a slow start.

The four-time African champions have struggled in their opening Group F matches, suffering a defeat to Angola and drawing with Niger in September.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to face Sudan in a crucial double-header in October, hoping to reignite their qualifying campaign and get back on track.

“It’s still possible, but we must improve—a lot,” Addo stressed during the post-match press conference. “We need to be more clinical with our chances and sharpen our defense. There are important lessons to be learned.”

He continued, “The goals we’re conceding are far too easy. This should be a wake-up call. We must grow from this experience and make the necessary adjustments.”

Addo also voiced his frustrations with the team’s defending in the match against Niger, particularly their handling of set pieces.

“We’re conceding goals too cheaply. It’s disappointing that we didn’t learn from the first game. The set piece goal was avoidable—we were all in position, but we didn’t defend well enough. That has to change,” he said. “But the positive is that it’s still in our hands. We’re level on points with Niger, and now we just have to focus on what’s next.”
