Cape Coast, Ghana – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has categorically denied recent claims circulating on Ghanaweb that the university’s operations have been banned in Nigeria.

In a media release issued on Thursday, January 4, 2024, the university’s management responded to the allegations and clarified its position.

UCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Major Kofi Baah-Bentum, emphasized several key points in the release:

Absence of UCC Operations in Nigeria

The release stated, “The University of Cape Coast (UCC) does not have any outlet or campus operating in Nigeria nor has it granted franchise to any institution in Nigeria to run its programmes.” This categorically refutes the notion that UCC is involved in any academic activities in Nigeria.

Direct Application Process for International Students

The university highlighted that all international students, including Nigerians, who wish to study at UCC, apply directly to the university for consideration. This underscores the official application process in place for prospective students.

Misrepresentation by Ghanaweb

The release expressed disappointment with Ghanaweb, stating, “It is interesting to note that, in a haste to drag the image of the University in the mud, Ghanaweb, with little information and without crosschecking, quickly ran to the market with the name of a certain Cape Coast University (CCU) to represent the solid brand of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).” This points out a misrepresentation by the media outlet, which confused UCC with a different entity.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

UCC’s management affirmed its commitment to maintaining its reputation as a leading academic institution. The release emphasized, “Management wishes to assure its cherished stakeholders and the general public that the University holds very dear its solid brand as an excellent academic institution with worldwide acclaim.”

Call for Verification

The release urged individuals and institutions to verify the authenticity of certificates purportedly issued by the University of Cape Coast. This is a standard practice to ensure the validity of academic qualifications.

Major Kofi Baah-Bentum urged stakeholders and the general public to disregard the “malicious publication” and assured them that UCC remains dedicated to upholding its esteemed reputation.
