Water Crisis in Accra: Okaikwei North MP Demands Urgent Action from GWCL

The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North Constituency, Hon. Theresah Awuni Lardi, has raised serious concerns over persistent water supply challenges in Accra.

Speaking at a Sanitation Committee engagement with water agencies on urban water supply issues, Hon. Awuni Lardi expressed frustration over the irregular flow of water in parts of the Greater Accra Region. She revealed that despite being an MP in the region, water flows through her tap only once a week, yet the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) consistently delivers monthly water bills without fail.

She cited areas within the Okaikwei North Constituency, including Lapaz and Nii Boi Town, among others, that continue to experience severe water shortages. According to her, the situation has compelled her to personally purchase water for some constituents, while also seeking funds to drill boreholes to ease the burden.

The MP further noted that in areas such as Spintex, water flows only on Wednesdays, highlighting the widespread nature of the crisis. She urged the relevant authorities to urgently address the situation and provide clear answers, stressing that her constituents are anxiously waiting for reliable and consistent water supply.

Hon. Awuni Lardi appealed to the water agencies to take immediate steps to resolve the challenges and ensure that residents receive the essential service they deserve.
