A growing concern has emerged regarding the alarming increase in reckless driving among Toyota Hiace bus drivers plying the Accra-Assin Fosu, Takoradi-Assin Fosu, and Takoradi-Cape Coast routes. These buses, commonly used for public transportation, pose a significant threat to the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and fellow road users.
According to Kofi Tutu News, reports indicate a disturbing trend of excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking maneuvers, disregard for traffic signals and signs, and aggressive driving behavior. This irresponsible driving puts lives at risk, causing accidents and injuries, fear and anxiety among passengers, and danger to vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Tragically, one of these buses was involved in an accident yesterday at the UCC East gate, close to the CNC junction, highlighting the urgent need for action.
The Accra-Assin Fosu route, spanning approximately 160 km, and the Takoradi-Assin Fosu and Takoradi-Cape Coast routes, covering around 100 km and 130 km respectively, demand responsible driving practices to ensure safety.
Authorities and transportation regulators must take immediate action to address this critical issue by implementing stricter driver training and certification programs, conducting regular vehicle maintenance and safety checks, enforcing traffic laws and regulations, and launching public awareness campaigns promoting road safety.
Passengers and road users deserve safe and responsible transportation. Let’s demand action to curb this reckless behavior and ensure our roads are safe for everyone.
