Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is set to officially announce his candidacy for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Primaries on November 4th. Bawumia reportedly met with the Majority Caucus on May 2nd to inform them of his decision to lead the NPP into next year’s elections. While Bawumia has previously hinted at his desire to succeed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader, he has yet to make an official announcement.
However, sources suggest that he has already met with key groups in preparation for the anticipated announcement.
The Majority Caucus expressed gratitude to Bawumia for consulting them before making his official announcement, indicating that his decision was a “show of respect.” The NPP Primaries are expected to be hotly contested, with several Majority MPs already announcing their intention to run.
These include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Joe Ghartey, as well as former MPs Francis Addai-Nimoh, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku. Additionally, former ministers Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Boakye Agyarko have announced their bids, while former Presidential Spokesperson Kwabena Agyei Agyepong is also running for the NPP Presidential Primaries.
