Speaking to the congregation during the Eidul-Fitr prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his unwavering opposition to LGBTQ activities, citing both his cultural upbringing and religious beliefs as foundational to his stance.

He stressed that Ghanaian societal norms strongly disapprove of homosexuality, and as a devout Muslim, he aligns his views with the teachings of the Holy Quran, which expressly condemn LGBTQ acts, including same-sex marriages.

Dr. Bawumia asserted that his faith unequivocally prohibits such practices, and as Vice President, and potentially as President, he will uphold this stance.

His comments came in response to calls from various quarters, particularly within certain Muslim communities, seeking clarification on his position regarding the LGBT issue.
