UENR ICT 300-level student assaulted by fellow students who mistook him for a thief

A 24-year-old Information Communication Technology (ICT) level 300 student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) was hospitalized after being nearly pummeled to death by other students who accused him of being a thief.

 

William Thompson Jr. was returning late from the school’s SRC week celebration with several colleagues when he became the victim of extrajudicial injustice.

 

 

According to UTV, while returning home, one of his traveling companions complained of a stomachache and decided to use one of the hostels’ restrooms.They decided to follow up after he did not return after a reasonable amount of time.

 

While searching for their companion who had gone to the bathroom, Thompson was confronted by some hostel residents on one of the floors of the multi-story building.Four male colleagues attacked him with electric wires and canes, among other implements, before flogging him to death.

 

When Thompson’s friends and the person who had visited the restroom returned and were unable to locate him, they began searching for him as well.Then they heard someone yelling for assistance and went to the location, only to discover him beaten and helpless.

 

The incident was reported to UENR officials, and one of the perpetrators was apprehended; the other three have since left the hostel.According to reports, Thompson was suspected of stealing the attackers’ cell phones and other valuables.

He sustained severe injuries to his face, back, and other areas of his body.Initially, he was transported to the university hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, doctors advised transferring him to the regional hospital.
