It is expected that RB Leipzig would release Timo Werner, just a year after they spent £25 million to bring him back from Chelsae.

After the German striker excelled for the Bundesliga team in 2020, the Blues paid Leipzig £47 million for him.

Timo Werner is expected to leave RB Leipzig

Timo Werner played two lackluster seasons at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022.

But before coming back two summers ago, Werner scored just ten goals in 56 Premier League appearances.

He has only made three league starts for Leipzig this year, and he did not play in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Freiburg.

Following Lois Openda, Yussuf Poulsen, and Benjamin Sesko as fellow strikers, Werner is coach Marco Rose’s fourth option.

Additionally, according to German publication Spox, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder stated that the team is open to hearing January bids for the 27-year-old.

“We look closely at our squad, and we want players who have that something a little different in their heads,” said Schroder.

“We will select guys of that caliber.

“We are here for Timo as he navigates this trying time. It’s not always sunlight in life.

We will address it if he expresses the desire to do something else.

“He is a part of our team, and he has to face up to competition for places.”

Despite having 57 caps and 24 goals under his belt, Werner’s ankle injury has caused him to lose his spot in the German national team.

Werner will get past his current problems, according to Schroder.

The frontman, who was born in Stuttgart, may yet try to depart during the January transfer window, which would allow him to return to the Premier League at a reduced cost.

Last summer, Newcastle was eager to take Werner on loan, but his £270,000 weekly pay from Chelsea proved to be a barrier.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims Juventus was also considering moving the German star to Italy.

In order to complete a return to RB Leipzig in August 2022, he did, however, decide to accept a pay cut to about £165,000 per week.
