The courtroom at the Wa District Court was packed as the case unfolded regarding the tragic murder of Eric Johnson, also known as the owner of Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, or Jirapa Dubai. Chief Superintendent of Police, Abdulai Amadu Alichewu, leading the prosecution, informed the court about changes in the charge sheet and requested the discharge of four out of seven suspects.
Alichewu asserted that there was compelling evidence indicating that Eliasah Mahama Akpanyikye, the main suspect, conspired with his girlfriend, Belinda Miller, to carry out the murder. The presiding judge, Maxwell Maxbrain Titiriku, remanded Akpanyikye to prison custody while Miller and another suspect, Kweku Kumbata, were to remain in police custody until their next appearance on April 15.
Akpanyikye, a former hotel employee dismissed for alleged misconduct, was accused of entering Johnson’s residence on the night of February 10, scaling a fortified fence. Phone records revealed he contacted Miller for assistance in locating the master key to Johnson’s room. Akpanyikye allegedly stabbed Johnson multiple times, stealing money and a car key before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended in Takoradi and brought back to Wa.
The prosecution detailed Akpanyikye’s suspicious behavior, including an injury claimed to be from a kitchen accident. The court instructed the prosecution to collaborate with the Attorney General’s Office to expedite the investigation.
