Merson, a former Arsenal player, was among the few commentators who predicted Chelsea would win on Monday night against Ange Postecoglou’s championship contenders.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team won a thrilling match in North London 4-1 thanks to a late hat-trick from Nicolas Jackson.
Goals on both teams were disallowed, resulting in multiple VAR decisions that forced the game to be stopped.
Additionally, Spurs finished the game with nine men when Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero received red cards.
After the final whistle, Merson seemed to be in a happy mood, which is not surprising given that he is a Blues fan.
The former attacker has already risked everything by saying Chelsea would defeat their bitter rivals.
This season, the Blues have been inconsistent, and many people picked Spurs as the overwhelming favorite.
In fact, a Tottenham supporter stated last week that Merson needed to “retire” in the event that Chelsea lost.
“Paul Merson needs to retire as a pundit when we beat Chelsea,” they declared.
However, following the Blues’ three-point victory, Merson responded to the troll with a victorious jab.
“At least four to one more year, you will have to put up with me,” he said.
Many praised Merson’s caustic jab, with one commenting, “Merse rattling the whole Spurs fanbase.”
