The government of Ghana, through the National Teaching Council (NTC), is working to clear the backlog of teachers who need to rewrite their licensure exams. Many teachers have struggled with delays due to missed exams or failed papers, leaving them uncertified despite years of teaching experience.

Richard Manuribe, a member of the NDC Communications Team, emphasized the importance of providing teachers a fair chance to retake exams, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process. The NTC plans to offer additional support and make exams more accessible, including establishing more regional centers and offering financial aid to teachers in need.

The long-term goal is to integrate licensure exams into the regular certification process for teachers, ensuring a consistent and high standard of education across the country. This reform is seen as crucial for recognizing teachers’ professional growth while improving the quality of education.

As Richard Manuribe stated, “We must ensure that our teachers have the tools and support they need to do their jobs effectively.”
