Effective healthcare delivery has been a major priority for individuals, religious groups, organizations, and other stakeholders as far as humanity is concerned.
This has triggered the Local Council of Churches within Bechem enclaves in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region to acquire a phototherapy machine for Bechem government hospital to cater to neonatal Jaundice cases within and outside the municipality.
The device after its purchase has raised a lot of concerns with a section of people claiming the local council of Churches has bought an obsolete device to deceive the hospital and the people of Tano South.
Speaking to Kwaku Mensah Abrampa on High Radio morning show, Rev. Clement Oduro, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches stated that they worked tirelessly to get the machine for the hospital through a philanthropist only to know there is a minor fault developed in the machine.
He stressed that the council never knew the machine has not been actively working indicating that it was brought to their notice a month ago and they are going to ensure the device is well repaired to serve the purpose for which it was purchased.
Rev. Haystins Asante, vice Chairman for the council explained to newsmen how the machine was acquired indicating that the machine was obtained from a foreign hospital which for the purpose of Covid 19 decided to lay off some of its unused equipment to be able to purchase more PPEs to safeguard the hospital workers and other people from the pandemic therefore the machine was not completely obsolete but was a slightly used phototherapy machine with a minor fault which is easy to be repaired.
Rev. Haystins attributed the problem of their inability to detect the fault earlier to a lack of communication between the Hospital authorities and the Church. He explained that the machine was not operated on the day it was brought to the hospital because they needed UPS to support the voltage before it can be operated.
He added after the acquisition of the UPS, there wasn’t a neonatal Jaundice case at the moment hence they waited until they had a case only to notice some petty fault in the machine stressing that experts have assured them of repairing the machine in the next two weeks hence people within Bechem6 must exercise patience because the machine will be ready soon.
