In a momentous visit to the northern region, the Right Honourable Speaker Alban SK Bagbin embarked on a mission to commemorate three decades of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy in Ghana.
On the second day of his visit, he paid a courtesy call to His Majesty Ndan Yaa-Naa Naa Abukari lI, the revered overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, within the magnificent walls of the Gbewa Palace in Yendi.
Accompanied by his spouse, Members of Parliament from the region, and dedicated staff from Parliament and the Speaker’s Office, Speaker Bagbin’s primary objective was to discuss the region’s economic and social development. This engagement in Yendi played a crucial role in ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the Dagbon Kingdom.
The celebration of Ghana’s thriving parliamentary democracy would feature a series of remarkable events throughout the year. To kickstart the festivities, a mock Parliamentary Sitting was scheduled to take place in Wa, offering citizens an immersive experience of the democratic process.
Additionally, a Public Forum in Tamale aimed to foster dialogue and encourage active participation in shaping the nation’s future. Bolga would witness a vibrant health walk and a thrilling football match, promoting both physical well-being and community spirit.
These activities were not limited to a single region but would be replicated in various parts of the country.
The intention was to ensure that Ghanaians from all corners of the nation had the opportunity to engage with and celebrate the significant achievements of parliamentary democracy.
