Outspoken Political Scientist Prof Ransford Gyampo has landed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his handling of the contract between Strategic Mobilisation Limited( SML) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), which has become a subject of controversy following an investigation by The Fourth Estate into SML’s activities in assuring revenue in the petroleum upstream and downstream sectors.
In the opinion of Prof Gyampo, the President’s handling of the issue – a swift order for an audit of the SML’s dealings with GRA and his recent comments on the outcome of the report and the way forward – is praiseworthy even though he would like they the audit report by the KPMG be made public for scrutiny.
Speaking on The Key Points show on TV3 on Saturday, April 27, 2024, Prof Gyampo noted that the President deserves praise for the first time over his handling of a corruption-related scandal in his Government.
“For once you[ President Akufo-Addo] have done well but release the entire report,” he asserted.
Prof Gyampo explained that notwithstanding the challenges with the contract between GRA and SML, which is being deservedly tackled, the company is obviously doing some good work for the GRA and must be supported, especially given that it is a Ghanaian-owned company.
The audit report by KPMG found, among others, the need for the monitoring of the petroleum downstream sector as being done by SML.
