The Ghana Police Service has arrested six students from Aggrey Memorial Senior High School in connection with the assault of a final-year student from Adisadel College, Cape Coast, in the Central Region.
According to a press release from the Central Regional Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the incident took place on Friday, 20 February 2026, around 3:30 p.m., following the conclusion of an inter-schools sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Police reports indicate that the victim, Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was attacked at Pedu Junction while on his way back to campus with two friends. The suspects allegedly stopped the students to confirm whether they were from Adisadel College before launching the violent assault.

While the victim’s two friends managed to flee, Rexford was overpowered, knocked to the ground, and beaten. His attackers also allegedly stole his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH¢1,400 in cash, and his shoes.

The authorities at Aggrey Memorial SHS handed the six suspects over to the Kotokuraba Police Station later that evening, around 7:30 p.m. The victim received initial treatment at the stadium clinic before being transferred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital. He was discharged on Sunday, 22 February 2026.

A medical report from the hospital, signed by a doctor, confirmed that Rexford sustained a fractured bone around his right eye, leaving him unable to open the eye. The victim’s two friends have reportedly identified the attackers to the police.

The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns the violent act and assures the public that the offenders will face the full consequences of the law. The statement, signed by Acting Head of Public Affairs, ASP Patrick Bentum, concluded with a commitment to justice for the victim.
