During a recent appearance on Onua TV’s “Maakye” program, Nicholas Osei, founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries and known as Prophet Kumchacha, criticized President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his handling of the LGBTQ+ issue. Kumchacha accused the President of being a coward and lacking bravery, stating that Akufo-Addo has not been able to take a clear stance on the matter.
Kumchacha’s comments come after the LGBTQ+ debate has resurfaced several times during Akufo-Addo’s presidency. The President has been criticized for his ambiguous comments on the matter, with many feeling that he has not been direct enough in denouncing the practice.
During Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent visit to Ghana, Akufo-Addo commented on the LGBTQ+ bill currently before Parliament, saying that it was being dealt with by the constitutional and legal committee and that he would weigh in once the process was complete. In 2021, the President had stated that LGBTQ+ would not happen under his presidency after previously saying in a BBC interview that it was bound to happen.
Kumchacha believes that Akufo-Addo’s failure to clearly denounce the practice makes him an evil man and a coward. According to the prophet, people who do not support evil are straightforward with issues, and the President’s inability to speak against the LGBTQ+ community indicates that he is not brave or bold.
In conclusion, the LGBTQ+ issue remains a contentious topic in Ghana, and Prophet Kumchacha’s comments are just one example of the differing opinions and perspectives surrounding the matter.
