President Mahama must declare a state of emergency – Kwadwo Baffour Atuahene
An Angel FM/TV Journalist, Kwadwo Baffour Atuahene, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to declare a state of emergency in response to the devastating helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of eight key government officials.
In an interview on Angel FM’s breaking news with Kwadwo Dickson on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, he attributed the death of the officials to the issue of illegal mining (Galamsey), emphasizing that this menace poses an even greater threat than the Bawku conflict.
“The President should use this as an advantage to declare a state of emergency because of this galamsey.
“The galamsey menace is even dangerous than the Bawku conflict,” he said.
According to him, the Bawku conflict is a regional issue whereas the illegal mining is a national concern that demands an immediate action.
Kwadwo Baffour warned without state of emergency declaration by the President over these deaths, all efforts to halt illegal mining will be futile.
“If the President does not declare a state of emergency on this death, there’s nothing that can be done to stop galamsey,” he reiterated.
