The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has revealed that over 2000 kilometers of roads are currently undergoing “extensive transformation” as part of the Big Push project across all 16 regions of Ghana. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the Minister emphasized that under President Mahama’s leadership, road projects have not been unjustifiably halted or terminated.
Agbodza highlighted that the Big Push programme has garnered strong support from Parliament, with nearly GHS 50 billion already approved for the multi-year road and bridge projects. He reassured the public, saying, “As I speak, over 2000km of roads in all 16 regions are undergoing extensive transformation. In the past, we’ve all expressed concern about the state of our roads, given the amount of money invested.”
In a bid for transparency and accountability, the Minister urged citizens to stay actively engaged in monitoring the projects in their communities and provide constructive feedback. He also addressed the issue of unpaid debts, noting that over GHS 11 billion had been used to clear a portion of the inherited GHS 40 billion debt, making it the largest arrears clearance in Ghana’s history within such a short period.
Additionally, Agbodza dismissed claims that the Big Push Infrastructure Programme relies on sole-sourcing, insisting that all contracts are awarded in full compliance with Ghana’s procurement laws. He reaffirmed that no laws have been breached and rejected any claims of scandal or misconduct. “It would be misleading for anyone to suggest that the Ministry of Roads and Highways procures works solely through sole sourcing,” he concluded.
