Ghana coach Otto Addo has called on his Black Stars players to step up in their upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Sudan, emphasising that victory is crucial to keeping their qualification hopes alive.
After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw with Niger, Addo admitted the pressure on the team but remains confident in their ability to bounce back.
Facing Sudan twice in October, both fixtures are must-win for the Black Stars, who are desperate to avoid missing out on AFCON qualification.
“It will be difficult again. I knew from the start, it’s just some little margins, little details which can decide,” Addo stated.
“For us, it will be a crucial match. We have to win. There is no way around it, and we have to win.”
He also stressed the importance of tightening up defensively, especially after conceding soft goals in their previous games.
“We are allowing too cheap goals. Like I said, I am disappointed; we didn’t learn the lessons from the first game. Now it’s a set piece, we are all back, and we need to defend this better. We have to improve to use our chances and also defend better in detail and to learn our lessons.”
With Ghana’s AFCON qualification hanging in the balance, the October doubleheader could determine their fate. Addo made it clear: “We are under pressure, and we have to do better.”
