Kennedy Kankam, an aspiring candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries for Nhyiaeso, Kumasi, has denied allegations that he has taken legal action against the party.
Addressing claims of suing the NPP over certain matters, Kankam clarified during an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, January 18, asserting that such statements are unfounded.
“There’s a perception in the public that Kennedy Kwasi Kankam has taken the New Patriotic Party to court. I want to correct that impression; I have not been to court, neither has my campaign team or any of my supporters,” Kankam stated.
Expressing confidence in the party’s structures and grievance procedures, he emphasized, “We anticipate that the party will render a verdict that aligns with the best interests of the party.”
In a broader context, the NPP recently announced the disqualification of 17 parliamentary aspirants from participating in the upcoming primaries scheduled for January 27.
The party revealed that 326 candidates qualified, three aspirants withdrew from the race, 29 individuals went unopposed, and one aspirant’s application is currently under court processes.
The decision to disqualify certain aspirants was confirmed during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday to finalize modalities for the upcoming election.
The NEC considered reports from the Party’s National Parliamentary Vetting Committees and the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee, according to a statement issued by Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP.
