In a compelling statement, Ephraim Nii Tan Sackey, a National Executive Member of the NDC party, has called upon Madam Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), to exercise her authority independently in the best interests of the Ghanaian people. Expressing his disappointment over what he perceives as her loyalty to President Nana Addo Danquah, Nii Tan insists on a departure from such apparent allegiance.

Emphasizing the crucial importance of the separation of powers as the cornerstone of good governance, Nii Tan stresses the need for leaders in pivotal institutions, like the police and judiciary, to remain devoted to their duties while ensuring checks and balances without resorting to military intervention. He firmly believes that these institutions possess the power to safeguard the will of the people.

Directly addressing Madam Jean Mensa, Nii Tan asserts that her alignment with the thoughts and interests of the President undermines the integrity of the democratic process. However, he holds onto the belief that she can redefine herself beyond these boundaries. While acknowledging the potential displeasure this may cause in the present, he is confident that her independent actions will be respected and understood by President Nana Addo when he concludes his term in 2025.

Critics argue that the current registration process at district offices falls short of serving the best interests of Ghanaians. They urge Madam Jean Mensa to reassess this decision, calling upon her to set aside pride and embrace humility. They emphasize that countless women across the nation look up to her, hoping for progress and empowerment. By making amends and actively working towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on gender equality, advocates believe that Madam Jean Mensa can positively shape the lives of many individuals in Ghana.
